About Me.

I’m Chris Wood, a national-level weightlifting coach, licensed personal trainer, and movement educator with over 20 years of experience coaching Olympic weightlifting, wrestling, and strongman. My coaching philosophy is rooted in both science and real-world application through a variety of training modalities including PRI—I don’t just teach movements; I teach people how to move better. From beginners to Division 1 athletes, I’ve worked with thousands of individuals to improve their strength, coordination, and overall performance. My passion for coaching has taken me from leading Team Hinesville to assisting elite-level athletes with Team Savannah, and now, I continue my work through Tutorial Fitness, where I break down complex human movement concepts into practical, actionable knowledge.

Outside of coaching, I’m pursuing my doctorate in physical therapy while running Tutorial Fitness, my online platform dedicated to making high-level movement education accessible to everyone. My YouTube series, “Becoming Human: Navigating Our Harsh World”, explores how modern life affects our bodies and what we can do about it. Whether it's understanding how vision impacts stress, why sitting is making you more anxious, or the overlooked role of foot mechanics in movement efficiency, I dive deep into the things that shape how we move and feel every day.

If you’re looking to improve your movement, understand your body, or just geek out over biomechanics, you’re in the right place. Let’s move smarter, not just harder.

2012-2017

Team Hinesville Head Coach

Team Savannah Asst/Coach (International/World Level)

During my time as Head Coach of Team Hinesville (2012-2017), I had the privilege of developing a youth Olympic weightlifting program that served as a feeder system for Team Savannah, a team known for producing Olympians. This wasn’t just a coaching role—it was a mentorship position where I worked closely with athletes, not only refining their technique but also helping them navigate academics, discipline, and personal growth. Many of my lifters required structured guidance both on and off the platform, and I took pride in ensuring they succeeded beyond just competition. Some needed extra study hours to stay eligible, others found confidence through lifting that reshaped their future, and a few went on to earn scholarships and pursue high-level athletic careers.

During this time, I was also fortunate to train under and be mentored by four world-class Olympic Level coaches, each with their own unique expertise in weightlifting. (Michael Cohen, Henry Meyers III, Oscar Chaplin Jr., Howard Cohen) These coaches shaped my technical knowledge, training methodologies, and coaching philosophy, providing me with an elite-level education in weightlifting and human movement. Their insights, combined with my hands-on experience developing athletes from the ground up, gave me a coaching foundation that extends beyond just programming—it's about understanding the why behind movement and teaching lifters how to build sustainable, long-term success.  I produced two Junior World qualifying athletes during my tenure establishing me as a world-level coach in my own right.

The lessons I learned at Team Hinesville still drive my approach today, whether coaching weightlifters, educating through Tutorial Fitness, or exploring movement science in my YouTube series. Strength is more than just lifting—it’s about the resilience, adaptability, and confidence that come with it.

Developing Coaches & Trainers (Equinox) 2017-2020

Beyond coaching competitive weightlifters, highschoolers and collegiate athletes; I’ve also worked in high-level fitness leadership, serving as a Manager at Equinox, where I was responsible for providing the technical training needed for personal trainers to excel in their roles. I oversaw a team of 35 trainers, ensuring they had the education, programming knowledge, and movement expertise necessary to deliver top-tier coaching to clients. This role deepened my understanding of how to bridge the gap between theory and practice, helping trainers go beyond textbook knowledge to apply biomechanics, physiology, and movement science in real-world coaching.

Educational Content & Movement Science (Tutorial Fitness, YouTube, etc.) 2020-Present

In addition to being a USAW director with HighVoltage Crossfit, I am also a licensed vendor with the Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center, where I work with special needs children to develop fundamental movement skills.. My focus is on teaching coordination, balance, and anti-fall strategies to help improve their overall motor function and confidence in movement. By integrating principles of postural control, sensory-motor training, and adaptive exercise, I create engaging, individualized programs that help these children navigate their world with greater ease and independence.

Beyond in-person coaching, I extend my educational mission through Tutorial Fitness, my online platform dedicated to breaking down complex movement science into actionable, easy-to-understand knowledge. Through my YouTube series, “Becoming Human: Navigating Our Harsh World,” I explore how modern life impacts the way we move, breathe, and feel—from the effects of chronic stress on posture to the role of vision in nervous system regulation. My goal is to bridge the gap between biomechanics and real-world application, giving people the tools to move smarter, not just harder.

Whether I’m teaching weightlifters, educating trainers, working with special needs children, or creating in-depth movement content, my mission remains the same: to help people understand their bodies and unlock their full movement potential.
